Hi,

We here at CLT Solutions found ourselves very invested in the Comrades Marathon in May. We gallantly volunteered to help out at the 'Green Number' tent, and despite it being harder work than we had anticipated, good fun was had by all. Asked afterwards if the whole experience had galvanised me into donning my sweatpants and running shoes and hitting the tarmac, I had to stifle a shriek of protest at the very idea. My running shoes will remain exactly where they can do me no harm... safely tucked away in the back of my cupboard under an assortment of flip-flops and non-athletic footwear! To those brave souls attempting to tackle Comrades 2010 - I shall cheer you on from the sidelines.

May also saw us officially launch our Twitter dialogue with the rest of the world. We also have our tweets posted on our website, so please check out our little Twitterdom for even more handy hints and tips.

We were invited to submit a White Paper to Tech4Law and will be submitting more in the near future. Please feel free to contact us with any PC queries you might have, and we shall endeavour to answer your questions as promptly and as accurately as possible.

Veering momentarily away from the world of cyberspace, we cannot ignore that we are now deeply entrenched in an economic recession. Words like 'knuckle down' and 'tighten your belt' have once again become part of our daily vocabulary. There is no reason, however, to see only bleakness ahead. In the immortal words of someone Afrikaans, "'n boer maak 'n plan"! Here are some CLT SOLUTIONS (get it? Solutions...) to keep your clouds in silver linings:

  1. Don't stop advertising: why offer recession specials if no-one is aware they exist?
  2. Challenge your competitors: if you are David, now's the ideal time to outbid Goliath, who's overheads are far greater than yours
  3. Cut office expenditure: persuade your staff that every time they spend company money, they should do so as if it were their own
  4. Look for a bargain: negotiate, negotiate, negotiate. This is a good time to go back to your suppliers to negotiate a better deal. Offer to keep up your volumes if they reduce the price
  5. Keep morale up: whatever you do, don't cancel the Christmas party. Offer extra paid vacation days for the coming year instead of year-end bonuses
  6. Cut overheads: if possible, share or sublease office space and let your new neighbours pay for lunch
  7. Get back on your feet: why waste petrol driving to the store around the corner? Your boots were made for walking!
  8. Try living on less: less is more when you have practically nothing
  9. Stop smoking: you can’t afford it
  10. Buy tanning lotion: you look white as a ghost
  11. Find a companion: it doesn’t pay to be alone no matter which type of depression you are suffering from
  12. Blame the government: that won’t help, but it will make you feel better

DeliaNow, a final word of caution, stockpiling body fat won’t help you get through the winter. It will only make you hungry when you can least afford to eat.

Have a happy and healthy June!

Delia Benade
