Shortcut Keys for Windows

Working on a computer all day has turned me into a huge fan of shortcuts, especially as I use the same actions over and over. If you find that you and your mouse are stuck in some warped sort of Ground Hog Day, then I have some good news! Windows has a number of shortcut keys that might help you in speeding things up a bit. I'm sure you're all familiar with CTRL + C (copying shortcut) and CTRL + V (pasting shortcut), but there is a whole world of other shortcuts to introduce you to.

These are some of the ones already built into Windows:

General:LOL Cats

  • CTRL + C: Copy
  • CTRL + V: Paste
  • CTRL + X: Cut
  • CTRL + Z: Undo
  • CTRL + B: Bold
  • CTRL + U: Underline
  • CTRL + I: Italic
  • CTRL + A: Selects everything in the current open window
  • CTRL + Esc: Opens the Start menu
  • ALT + Tab: Switch between open programs
  • ALT + Shift + Tab: Reverse switch between open programs
  • ALT + Double-click: Shows the properties of the file that you double-clicked upon

  • Backspace: Goes back to the first folder (in Windows Explorer), or goes back one step (in Internet Explorer)
  • Tab: Moves to the next field on a form (e.g. in Internet Explorer)
  • Shift + Tab: Moves to the previous field on a form

Used Within a Program:
